There are many ways to build a career in esthetics. The first step is completing a state-approved esthetician program and obtaining your license. In Texas, there is no separate medical esthetician license—this title simply reflects a professional’s focus within the industry. Many estheticians choose to gain advanced training in treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser procedures to work in medical spas, dermatology offices, and plastic surgery practices.

At Avenue Five Institute, students receive hands-on experience with chemical peels and machines including microdermabrasion. Many graduates apply their skills in advanced skincare settings, expanding their career opportunities within the beauty industry.

To become an esthetician in Texas, complete a state-approved esthetician program, pass the TDLR licensing exam, and meet enrollment requirements like being at least 17 years old and having a high school diploma or GED. The program provides hands-on training in skincare, customer service, and skin physiology to prepare you for a licensed career in esthetics.

Three flexible schedules are available: Morning (8:30 am-12:30 pm), Afternoon (1:00 pm-5:00 pm), and Evening (5:30 pm-9:30 pm). Students are scheduled to attend Monday-Friday and also complete 10 hours of weekly distance learning from home at whatever time works best.

Students will learn various skills, including facial massage, lash and brow tinting, facial treatments, skin analysis, basic hair removal, and advanced techniques like eyelash extensions, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels.

The esthetician program typically takes 26 weeks to complete, based on good attendance.

To enroll, you must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Additional requirements may include meeting with an admissions representative and submitting an application form for review.

Accreditation is a voluntary process that recognizes educational programs for having achieved a measurable level of quality, performance, and integrity. Accreditation also means that a school maintains important minimum student outcomes, including completion, licensure, and employment of graduates. In addition to serving as a reliable index of quality education, accreditation is required by the US Department of Education in order to allow eligible students to participate in federal grant and loan programs.
