October is Cancer Awareness Month and we are celebrating with a special surprise… our small way of honoring cancer patients and survivors!
It is with a genuine spirit of love and caring that Avenue Five students strives to exceed all previous levels of giving each year. For the entire month of October, Avenue Five Institute is offering FREE beauty and spa services for cancer patients and survivors. Anyone who has fought cancer or is currently fighting cancer is welcome to set up appointments for these free services. Eligible guests may pick from the following services: 
- Blow Out
Say hello to your good hair day with one shampoo and conditioning treatment complete with a blow-
dry and fabulous style.
- Facial
Indulge in a hydrating Hylunia facial that’ll leave your skin feeling beautifully rejuvenated. We use all-natural vegan products free of parabens and gluten.
- Massage
Leave your worries at the door while you enjoy a relaxing 50-minute Swedish massage.

The Importance of Cancer Awareness Month
In 2017, the Department of State Health Services estimated 120,173 new cases of cancer would be diagnosed in Texas. That’s over 120,000 mothers, fathers, daughters, husbands, wives and loved ones. While more people are beating cancer every day, and death rates from cancer continue to decline, it doesn’t make the diagnoses or treatment process any easier.
Rest assured, you are not alone in this battle. We are here for our local community members battling cancer. We are honored to deliver much needed relaxation and enjoyment to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer. 
A Cause Close to Our Hearts
Soon after opening Avenue Five Institute in 2007, the wife and mother our school’s owners (a husband and son duo) was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. The Breast Cancer Research Center of Austin stepped in to help the family, just as they have helped thousands of other families. Our founders vowed to never forget the kindness the organization showed them and continue to give back to this day. Together, we have donated over $50,000 to the BCRC. Students are encouraged to participate in the wildly fun and beneficial annual BCRC Art Bra Fundraiser. Making The Breast Cancer Resource Center of Austin our primary charity.
Avenue Five Institute’s community involvement doesn’t stop there. Sharing our time and creativity with the Austin community is more than just a feel-good experience, it is our best effort to improve people’s lives. Our faculty, students, and staff are dedicated to giving back to a wide variety of local charities—helping animals, kids, homeless individuals, and more. We’ve worked with the Austin SPCA, Austin Settlement Home for Teens, Back to School Haircuts for Kids, and the list goes on.
We feel blessed every day we get to help students pursue their dreams in the beauty industry. In honor of sharing our good fortune, we see it as our duty to give back to the commu-nity in as many ways as possible. Not only does it bring us joy in doing so, but also, it sets a good example for our students who are then inspired to go on and do great things, both professionally and charitably.
