It’s no secret that Avenue Five is super proud of our talented team of highly experienced educators. We always say that they’re not here because they have to be but because they want to be. And we’re not kidding. Our Instructors are rock stars (#TeamAve5!) and they’re fully dedicated to our students. They give them the skills to be top performers in the industry and instill the confidence needed to launch a successful career.
And they continue to educate themselves to stay on top of emerging trends and techniques.
But despite how awesome they are, they’re still just like you and me; they have hopes, they have goals, and some silly taste in music… did somebody say Aladdin?!
Introducing the first post of many in a series that we’re calling, Get To Know Our Rock Star Team, where we’ll get a chance to pick our fave Instructors’ brains. Wink.
So without further ado, let’s introduce our first brave candidate, the one, the only…
Emmanuel Aguilar – Cosmetology Instructor
Q/Where did you grow up?

A/ I grew up in Laredo, TX.
Q/ If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
A/ If I could live anywhere… I’d say back home in Laredo Texas, because that’s where my family is and long lasting friendships have been built.
Q/ What motivates you to work hard?
A/ The one thing that motivates me to work hard is the fact that we never stop growing, both physically and mentally. I want to become a well-rounded person in the field of cosmetology, and in general.
Q/ What is your favorite thing about your career?
A/ The best part of my career is to help others discover their full potential, their talents, and to stay positive.
Q/ What is your proudest accomplishment?
A/ When I became a Cosmetology Instructor because if you’d ask me six years ago what I would be doing now I would have never guessed I’d be teaching! Life does work in mysterious ways.
Q/ What makes you laugh the most?
A/ Stand up comedy, I have a great sense of humor.
Q/ What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A/ True Story: While other kids wanted to be cops, fire fighters, etc… I always wanted to become a professional wrestler, lol!
Q/ What would you sing at Karaoke night?
A/ Karaoke??? Hmmm, I’d say “Prince Ali” from the Aladdin soundtrack. Hahahaha!
Q/ If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A/ Protein shakes, or gummy bears.
Q/ If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?
A/ I’m a huge geek and love Marvel and DC Comics, but if I had one superpower I think I would choose the power to heal myself and others.
Q/ Who was your favorite teacher in school and why?
A/ Judy Rodriguez, because she taught me everything I know now and was a huge part of my Instructor success.
Q/ What’s a solid piece of advice you often give your students?
A/ Best advice I can give my students is…
“It’s better to be remembered as someone who has taught, than someone who isn’t remembered at all”

We know you’re jazzed that you just found out Manny wanted to be a pro wrestler!!! Nothing like trading in a tiny, spandex outfit for hair and make-up! We love you Manny and we’re glad you chose the latter. Well, stay tuned because we’ve only just begun.
