Our skin is the largest organ on our bodies. It holds everything in place, acts as a warning signal against heat and cold. It’s full of nerve endings that send messages throughout our bodies constantly. Unfortunately, we often don’t give it the attention it deserves, or worse, we give it the wrong kind of attention. Here are the seven most common skincare mistakes.

1. No sunscreen – Even the winter sun can play havoc on your skin. It is important to protect it at all times with a good sunscreen to keep it from becoming burnt and dry.

2. Scrubbing too hard – Skin does need exfoliated in order to help remove the dead skin that accumulates. However, people tend to take this too far, leaving their skin red and raw and ripe for infection.

3. Wearing makeup to bed – Not taking the time to remove your makeup before going to bed doesn’t give your skin time to breathe. Our bodies heal as we sleep and allowing makeup to sit and clog your pores denies it that chance.

4. Not getting enough sleep – The next of our skincare mistakes is not getting 8-10 hours of sleep each night. Not getting that needed sleep leaves your skin dull and blotchy because it doesn’t have the chance to renew itself.

5. Improper diet – Just like every other part of your body, your skin needs proper nutrition to help it keep its glow and flexibility. Not eating your fruits and vegetables is one of the biggest skincare mistakes.

6.  Using too many products – Treating blemishes, using a moisturizer, adding harsh chemicals from makeup, this all adds up to your skin needing to work harder to try and stay firm and glowing. Harsh chemicals can dry your skin and leave it dull and irritated.

7. Not drinking water – One of the biggest skincare mistakes is not drinking at least 64 ounces of water daily. Your skin is exposed to the sun, wind, pollutants and a hundred other irritants each day that dry it out. It needs to replenish its natural moisture and the best way to do that is to give it water to work with.
