What is Makeup Artistry School?
A Makeup Artistry Program dives much deeper into makeup without the focus on hair, nail technology, and other facets of the beauty industry. In our Makeup Artistry program, you will learn:
- Facial analysis, base matching
- Application of makeup including correction, contour & highlight
- Specialty training for lips and eyes
- Bridal makeup
- + So much more

Cosmetology vs. Makeup Artist: How long is each program?
Our Makeup Artistry program is 16 weeks and classes are 3.5 hours, 2x a week.
Our Cosmetology program is more extensive because it involves more diverse material. You can enroll in our part-time or full-time program, depending on your schedule and how quickly you’d like to complete your education. The full-time program takes 43 weeks to complete and is held Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. The part-time program takes 72 weeks to complete and is held Monday through Thursday from 5:30 to 9:30 pm.
Which Program is Right for You?
So, when it comes to cosmetology vs makeup artist – which is the right program for you? If you are set on doing makeup and makeup only, your best bet is to enroll in a Makeup Artistry program. It takes less time and completely focuses on your area of interest. On the other hand, if you’re debating becoming a hair stylist or nail technician, it will be worth the extra time to complete a cosmetology program. Plus, if the portion on makeup speaks to you, you can always dive deeper into that passion and enroll in makeup workshops to advance your skills.
Do You Need a Cosmetology License to Become a Makeup Artist in Texas?
You can become a professional makeup artist after attending a cosmetology program, but it is not required. There is often a misconception that you must have a Cosmetology Operator License to be a professional makeup artist in Texas. Although, as long as you strictly offer makeup services, you do not need a license in cosmetology. Therefore, it may make more sense to complete a shorter program dedicated to makeup.
