The Power of Setting Your Intention Before Starting Your Day

One of the best ways to set your day up for success is to set your intention before starting your day. But what does it really mean to set your intention? More importantly, what happens if you don’t set your intention?

Intentions offer you more control over your life, and don’t we all want that? Without an intention you can end up walking around aimlessly without a destination in mind – wearing yourself out without ever getting anywhere.

You can put your mind at ease, relax more, and enjoy life as it unfolds by simply setting your intentions or goals for the day and then getting to work.

Setting Your Intention In Between Each Client

As a massage therapist, makeup artist, barber or hairstylist, you work on a whirlwind of clients throughout the day – which can be a great thing, or it can start to wear you down. Hairstylists, as well as massage therapists and other beauty professionals, often find themselves playing therapist for their clients.

That’s why many industry experts recommended resetting your intention in between clients. This entails clearing out the energy and thoughts from your past client and refocusing your own energy and mindset on your goals for the next client on your calendar. This will help prevent you from taking any negativity or stress from one client into your next appointment.

4 Tips for Setting Your Intention Each Day

1. Take the Time to Recognize Who You Are and What You Want

How do you want your clients to view you? How do you want to feel at the end of each day? What’s your goal this week, next month, in 5 years? Take the time to write it out and get to know yourself on a deeper level. Knowing what you really want will help you set your true intentions.

2. Create a Routine

Start a routine at the beginning of your day and/or in between each client that helps realign your thoughts and clears your mind. That routine might be taking a few moments to close your eyes and take deep breaths, or maybe it includes jotting down anything weighing you down in a notebook so you can let it go. Create a routine that works for you, and remember, it might take some trial and error.

3. Use the Right Language

Avoid using words like “want,” “should,” or “hope.” Instead set a stronger intention by using purposeful words like “choose,” “will,” and “going to”.

4. Don’t Let Harmful Self-Dialogue Get in the Way of Your Intentions

Have you ever had a goal in mind or something you really wanted but your subconscious mind was playing evil dialogue in the background – like, “I can’t do this, I don’t deserve it”? These negative thoughts plague all of us at some point but it’s important to get rid of them because they only serve one purpose: to self-destruct.
