Easy Techniques to Touch Up Your Eye Makeup!

For women, nothing’s more fun than using makeup to play with colors, highlight their features or create a certain look. There are many cosmetic brands available in the market today that you can use to play up your eyes, cheeks and lips. But if you would like to turn your eyes into the focus of your features, you should learn the techniques on how to play up those peepers. Read on to find out how you can do just that.

Ways to Play Up Your Eyes

Paying attention to eye makeup ensures that everyone’s eyes will be on yours. So when you’re heading to work, dressing up for a party or preparing for a day out with friends, here are the different ways that you can play up your eyes:

  • Prepare your eyes.

Before applying anything on your eyes, you should follow some preparation steps to make the colors last longer. Use a concealer or a primer before applying eyeshadow, eyeliner or mascara. When buying eye makeup, do a quick search on how long it lasts. If it has a shelf life of three to six months, for example, the drugstore brands should do. On the other hand, if the shelf life of the eye makeup is two years, you can go ahead and splurge a bit on more expensive brands.

  • Disguise tired-looking eyes.

Aside from making sure that the colors will last longer, you can also use a few techniques to disguise tired looking eyes. The night before, you can use some cooled, used teabags or cucumber slices and place them over your eyes to disguise puffiness. If you don’t have the time for that, simply use a liquid light-reflecting concealer. This eye makeup helps brighten and lift the area under the eyes, after which you can proceed with the rest of your eye makeup application.

  • Liven up your eyelashes.

Nothing’s more feminine than having peepers with lush eyelashes, and you can use falsies or false eyelashes for this. Individual false eyelashes are more natural-looking than ones with a full fringe, so make sure to use one when applying your eye makeup.

  • Work on your eyebrows.

All that hard work you will put towards playing up your eyes will be all for naught if you don’t work on your eyebrows. Using a wax-based pencil or a powder eyebrow filler, use a lighter shade to fill up the sparse part using short, light strokes. Make sure that your brows are perfectly arched and use the filler to make your brow makeup very well put together.

  • Learn how to use eyeshadow.

Unless you’re going out at night, use a matte eye powder with a classic texture because it works well on any skin type. It’s also suitable for those who are just beginning to play with eye makeup. If you don’t have a suitable brush, use a Q-tip to apply the shade over your eyelids.

  • Match your makeup with the shape of your eyes.

If you have small eyes with uncreased lids, a medium-toned eyeshadow will help open up your eyes more. If you have thin lids, a lighter shade applied at the corner of the eye which is combined with a deeper hue can make the lids look bigger. If you have close-set eyes, use dark eyeshadow on the outermost part of the lids to make them appear farther apart.

  • Add some drama with a smokey eye look.

Finally, night makeup will not be complete without adding some drama with the help of the smokey-eyed look. For this, eyeliner can be used in heavy strokes, then blended with the rest of the eye makeup to make the eye makeup appear very dramatic.

With these techniques, you can play up your eyes and dazzle everyone with your look!
