Skincare Advice To Give Your Clients This Winter

Once again, winter is coming and with it comes the same old skin problems. If you experience dry, irritated skin during the colder months, you’re not alone. This is why we’re going to provide some expert skincare advice for clients to keep skin looking radiant, healthy and cared-for in winter.

Drink plenty water

It’s important to stay hydrated all the time, not just in summer, and many people don’t drink as much water during winter. Drinking plenty of water will help keep your skin looking clear and glowing from within.

Moisturize often

The cold combined with the drop in humidity indoors can often cause your skin to dry out. So moisturize with a good, oil-based moisturizer in order to keep your skin soft and supple.

Use a good lip balm

During winter, lips tend to dry up and become chapped or cracked. Carry a good lip balm around with you at all times, and avoid licking your lips, as this can often make the dryness worse.

Wear sunscreen

Yes, that’s right: sunscreen isn’t just for summer. As long as the sun is shining, your skin needs to be protected from potentially harmful UV rays. Use a sunscreen, moisturizer or foundation with an SPF 15 or more in order to keep your skin protected from the sun.

Don’t neglect your exercise regime

It may be tempting to stay indoors with a hot mug of cocoa when it’s cold outside, but it’s important to stay healthy and keep active. Doing so will help you to sweat and get rid of some of the toxins that can build up and lead to breakouts.

Eat well

Stock up on fruit and vegetables; your internal wellness is often reflection in the condition of your skin. Although you may feel like munching on chocolate and pie during winter, it’s important to ensure your diet is balanced.

Turn on the humidifier

Because everyone has their heating blasting out hot air in winter, this removes a lot of the moisture you’re used to from the air. Hooking up a humidifier will replace some of that moisture, preventing your skin from drying out and becoming itchy or flaky. It’s a good idea to place a few small humidifiers around the home so that moisture can be distributed evenly.

Protect your hands

Wear gloves when you go outside, and use a hand cream at night to ensure your hands stay smooth and soft. After all, the skin on our hands is thinner and has fewer oil glands than most parts of our bodies. Avoid gloves that can irritate your skin, such as itchy wool, and never put on gloves that are damp.

Avoid face peels

If you have trouble with dry skin, avoid face peels, masks or alcohol-based astringents or toners, as they can often be harsh on your skin and lead to irritation.
