#TeamAve5 is a united family. We support each other and we applaud our successes and accomplishments, and that is why we’re coming together, along with the entire industry, to support the #IamAVisualArtist campaign.
This empowering campaign aims to petition the Bank of England to add Vidal Sassoon’s name BACK onto the nominations list of those recognized as ‘people of historic significance’ after the Bank removed it, stating:
“at the time of the nominations we consulted with the Banknote Character Advisory Committee and concluded that hairdressing did not fall within the field of the visual arts and therefore Vidal Sassoon is unfortunately not eligible to appear on the list of names to be considered by the Committee.”
iPetitions.com, where you can sign this petition, states “the late Vidal Sassoon revolutionized the hairdressing industry and devoted his life to enhancing the profile of ‘the craft’ as he liked to call it. He also raised millions of dollars through his charity work, including the remarkable effort to rebuild homes after hurricane Katrina through his charity “Hairdressers Unlocking Hope”.
Avenue Five is super proud to be among one of the select few schools to be members of the Sassoon Academy School Connection, which allows our students to receive one of the most prestigious credentials possible in our industry- a Sassoon Diploma. We’re crazy talented. We’re cutting edge. We raise the bar. We ARE Sassoon.
In honor of him, one of our very own uber talented students, Chris Holloway, graffitied an impressive homage to the late Vidal Sassoon on our wall. He and his wife, Scarlett Holloway, who we’re proudly able to claim as one of ours as well, own one of Austin’s top rated and highly respected salons, Hearts and Robots Hair Studio. And when Chris is not crafting the latest lob, he’s creating stunning work with his other company Fuzzy Popsicle, a hand made media company specializing in hand painted advertisements, signage, murals and art. This mural is a must see!
